New Delhi:
The BJP today raised the pitch of its battle against the Manmohan Singh government by declaring that it won't last its full term, as it had completely lost all credibility. Speaking after the two day national executive meet of the party's top leaders in New Delhi, Arun Jaitley, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said the BJP needs to be prepared for early polls.
"A revulsion towards the government has set in... the government won't last till 2014," said Mr Jaitley while briefing the media after the party meet concluded.
Mr Jaitley's point was driven home at the meet by senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. However, she also questioned whether the BJP is ready to face early polls and called on the cadres to present a united face.
"This government will not last long, and being the principal opposition party, it is our responsibly to be ready for this challenge," Sushma Swaraj was quoted as saying by Mr Jaitley.
"We must learn from Congress' mistakes and maintain a clean image and unity in the party, keeping allies together," she said. "This is how we will fulfill our duty as an opposition and also be prepared for an alternate government."
Senior leader LK Advani, meanwhile, said, "Government is in a suicidal mode. We don't need to disturb it."
Mr Jaitley also attacked the Prime Minister saying he was losing his confidence. "The Prime Minister always had loss of authority. Now he suffers from loss of confidence in dealing with the situation," he said.
The two-day meet was focused on senior party leader LK Advani's anti-corruption 'yatra' which begins October 11 from a Bihar village.
The meeting, which was skipped by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and two of the party's two discredited chief ministers - BS Yeddyurappa of Karnataka and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishak of Uttarakhand, also discussed the probability of a mid-term election to the Lok Sabha.
Mr Jaitley said the main agenda of the BJP's own meeting was "good governance".

The Congress quickly pointed out that instead of focusing on rifts within the UPA, the BJP should sort out their inner party conflicts.
"Most of the statements and activities at the national executive meet of the BJP reflect that collective premature dreams of a radarless ship which has convinced itself that it is an active pretender to power. These are nothing but the illusions of grandeur and sooner they come out of it the better. There is no affirmative support for them from the public so they are now trying to mislead the nation... But if the BJP repeats a lie thousand times, it can't become a truth," said Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Spokesperson, Congress.
