Govt reaches out to BJP for smooth functioning of Parliament
New Delhi: Worried over repeated stalling of Parliament due to protests on various issues, the government on Friday reached out to the Opposition. Leader of the House in Lok Sabha, Pranab Mukherjee, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal, met senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley in New Delhi.

During the 30-minute meeting, Mukherjee offered the government's readiness to discuss all issues and requested BJP's cooperation for "expeditious" passage of the Bills listed for the Monsoon Session.

Bansal told reporters that the government has got "good response" from the meeting with BJP and it was prepared to discuss any issue raised by any member.

BJP's Sushma Swaraj described the meeting as a "routine courtesy call" by the two ministers.

On Wednesday, CPM leader Brinda Karat had reportedly alleged that Parliament disruptions were a part of a backroom deal between the BJP and the Congress. Reacting to it, Bansal said, "This allegation is baseless and not appropriate. We have held talks with leaders of the Left also from time to time. It is only pertinent that we talk to everybody in a democracy." (With PTI Inputs)
