New Delhi: Controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen will not be disappointed by her current visit to India as the government has decided to extend her visa.
The last time she was here, she was driven away from West Bengal and then finally driven away from the country.
Taslima's controversial books like Lajja created such an outrage among Muslim groups that she was told she couldn't be provided security. But now it seems the situation has changed.
NDTV has learnt that Taslima's tourist visa will be extended by six months with no apparent restrictions on her movement.
But security sources in the state are unhappy with the decision. They say the extension may renew the agitation among groups in West Bengal, which is why the government has kept her in secret hideouts ever since she returned to the country on Thursday.
Taslima's visa is done but what about her permanent residency? That's a bit more contentious which is why government is not deciding on that yet.
