Indore: In a heartening gesture, family members of a 34-year-old man, declared brain dead after he met an accident, donated his vital organs which were successfully transplanted into four patients.
"Gaurav Jain sustained grievous injuries after he met an accident on March 6. The doctors declared him brain dead yesterday," Sandeepan Arya, a member of 'Muskan', an NGO promoting the cause of organ donation, said.
"The deceased's family members decided to donate his heart, liver, kidneys, eyes, and skin for patients in need," he said.
Gaurav's heart and liver were transported to the city's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport through a 'green corridor', managed deftly by the district administration, he said.
The two organs were sent to Delhi and successfully transplanted into patients admitted at separate government hospitals, he said.
The kidneys were transplanted into patients at two private hospitals, he said.
Gaurav's eyes and skin have been safely preserved for future transplant, he said.
He said that in the last six months eight Green Corridors have been created in the city to transport organs harvested from brain dead persons.
A 'green corridor' is a special route created for transportation of organs meant for transplant, sans red lights or with the traffic signals being operated on manual mode.
