Ahmedabad: At least 18 pilgrims were killed when a truck lost control and ran over them on the Dholka-Bagodara Highway in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night, police said. (See Pictures)
The victims, who were on their way to Bhadiyad Peer Dargah at Dholka, were sleeping near a roadside 'dhaba' (eatery) at Beghwa crossroad.
While 16 persons died on the spot, some others were injured, police said, adding they were admitted to the VS Hospital. Two of them succumbed to injuries.
The truck involved in the accident was from Madhya Pradesh. It was going from Katni in Madhya Pradesh to Vakaner in Rajkot.
The vehicle's driver and cleaner are absconding, police said, adding further investigations were on.
