Gujarat artist makes glass portrait of Obamas
Vadodara: An artist from Gujarat has made a mosaic glass portrait of the Obamas, using shards of tube lights and bulbs, which will be presented to the US President during his India visit beginning November 6.

Rajesh Baria, a former student of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, told PTI that he made the 3x4 feet mosaic glass portrait of US President Barrack Obama, his wife Michelle and their two children using shards of 80 tube lights and 150 bulbs.

"It took almost four months for preparing the portrait after a renowned industrial house of the country asked me to make it for presenting it to the US President," Baria, who did not wish to name the company, said.

Explaining the procedure, the city-based artist said "first of all, the best picture was selected from Obama's website. Then, I broke the neon tube lights and bulbs into pieces and painted them for a pixelated image which emerged with light being scattered in different directions."

The portrait will be handed over to the company tomorrow and it will be presented to Obama after he reaches Delhi, Baria said.

Before this, Baria had made 12x33 feet plate of Mahatma Gandhi, which was superimposed on India map by using 5,000 tube lights and 3,000 bulbs.
