Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14
Gandhinagar: While the campaigning for Gujarat Assembly Elections is in full swing, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Monday, announced the names of 28 candidates in its third list. Prominent names in the list includes the sitting MLA and Assembly Speaker Raman Vora and sitting MLA (Akota constituency) and former cabinet Minister Saurabh Patel. While Mr Vora will contest from the Scheduled Caste (SC) seat of Dasada and Mr Patel will contest from Botad, from where he contested in the previous term as well.
The list did not include senior leader and spokesperson IK Jadeja, who was hoping to get ticket for Dhrangadhra constituency. That seat will now be contested by Jayarambhai Dhanjibhai Sonagra.
Other names included former Minister Govindbhai Patel who will be contesting from his sitting seat Rajkot (South) and Rambhai Vadher who will be contesting from the Kodinar SC seat replacing sitting MLA Jethabhai Solanki, who resigned from the saffron party on Saturday.
Disgruntled BJP workers had held a protest on Sunday at the party's state unit headquarters in Gandhinagar over the BJP's choice of candidates in the previous two lists.
Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday had released the first list of its 77 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly election with senior leaders from the state Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhwadia getting tickets for the crucial election.
Gujarat has been under the BJP's rule for over two decades. The election will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. The first phase will cover 89 constituencies in 19 districts, and the second phase 93 seats in 14 districts, and the result will be announced on December 18.
