Ahmedabad: For years, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi maintained a low profile on his birthday. But now, with their leader assuming a larger role in national politics, the Gujarat BJP is planning to organise state-wide mass contact programme to coincide with Mr Modi's birthday on September 17.

With 2014 general elections months away, the BJP's presumptive prime ministerial candidate is expected to connect with lakhs of people from across the state through social media.

The BJP spokesperson IK Jadeja said, "The birthday of the Chief Minister will provide an ideal opportunity to kick off such plans. Many mass awareness campaigns will be initiated during the nine-day programme."

All the party cells and district presidents have been assigned the responsibility to connect with one lakh people in their respective constituencies. Tree plantation drive, medical camps and other social programmes would also be part of the celebration, said Mr Jadeja.
