The bookings for the small car Nano created a big buzz on Thursday. The BJP is using that buzz in its election campaign.
The Gujarat BJP has rolled out replicas of Nano with photographs of Lal Krishna Advani, Narendra Modi and Purshottam Rupala as a tribute. Thousands of such Nanos are being distributed among voters as a symbol of fresh jobs and opportunities that BJP has brought to Gujarat.
''This is our sincere attempt to convey to our voters how investor-friendly Gujarat government is and what kind of safe and secured atmosphere it can provide for investors,'' said Yamal Vyas, BJP spokesman.
An argument the state Congress says is anti-farmers. But the car's popular appeal has drowned their anti-Nano rhetoric.
For Nano dealers though this BJP gimmick is welcome news. The more the interest in the car the more they can convert it into sales.
''We are excited to note that Nano has become a symbol in these elections,'' said Ravi Suri, car dealer.
