Ahmedabad: Ahead of 'Raksha Bandhan', the women's wing of Gujarat BJP today sent over one lakh 'rakhis', collected from across the state, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Gujarat BJP's women wing today sent more than one lakh rakhis, collected from across the state, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in Delhi," a release from the party's women wing president Jyoti Pandya and vice president Hemali Boghawala, said.
These rakhis were collected from the women social workers and party leaders from across the state, it added.
During his chief ministerial stint in Gujarat, Mr Modi used to organise Raksha Bandhan festival at his official residence in Gandhinagar, where women from all walks of life used to tie rakhis to him.
Last year as well, thousands of elderly widows from Varanasi, Mr Modi's Lok Sabha constituency, had sent rakhis to him.
