AHMEDABAD: Gujarat policemen are seen destroying public property and smashing car windows in CCTV footage that has emerged from a residential area in Ahmedabad.
The visuals, from the night of August 25, show the policemen, wearing helmets, breaking into the Shahibaug area and going on the rampage.
The incident allegedly took place at the height of protests on Tuesday by Patel community activists, who are demanding reservation in jobs and education.
The Gujarat High Court has called for an investigation into the police excesses.
Four people allegedly died in police firing and the Patidar Amanat Sangarsh Samiti led by Hardik Patel has demanded that murder cases be filed against the police. It also wants Rs 30 lakh each for the families of those killed.
Eight people, including a policeman, have died in violence since Tuesday. The army has been deployed in Ahmedabad and three other cities of Gujarat.
