Gandhinagar: To protect the international maritime boundary of Gujarat, the state government has decided to form a specialised 'Marine Commando Force' for continuous patrolling and surveillance in the waters as well as land near the sea.
Giving details about the project during discussion on state Budget in the Assembly today, BJP MLA Rajnikant Patel said the state government has already allotted Rs 122 crore for modernisation of state police force.
The Marine Commando Force will have 30 boats, 32 jeeps, and 125 bikes. According to Patel, a separate budget have been allotted for formation of the force.
Mr Patel, an MLA from Asarawa constituency in Ahmedabad, also added that to stop infiltration attempts by terrorists, fencing has been done on the international border touching Pakistan.
"For development and modernisation of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), which falls under the home department, Rs 35 crore has been alloted in the budget. Gandhinagar-based FSL has helped the CBI in 293 cases till now," said Mr Patel.
He also assured the House that 17 new police stations will come up in the next one year. "For our Suraksha Setu project, Rs 50 crore have been allotted. Till now, 50,000 women have been given training for self-defence by police in the state," added Mr Patel.
