Gujarat Villagers Rescue Monkeys Trapped on Tree in Flooded Pond

Vadodara: A bunch of monkeys, famished and trapped on a tree in the middle of a pond swollen by flood water, were rescued by locals at Kalyan village in Patan district today.

"The monkeys, about 150 in number, could not leave the banyan tree as it was surrounded by flood water and remained trapped there for two days, without food and water," said village Sarpanch Hargovind Bhai.

After they came to know about the plight of simians, villagers made a temporary bridge using two ropes and wooden pieces.

"Some swimmers waded into the water and gave support to the makeshift bridge. They also made the monkeys come down from the branches," said Mukesh Patel, a local.

He said that monkeys crossed the pond one-by-one to reach the village.
