Vadodara: Due to heavy rains in the catchment area the Saradar Sarovar dam on Narmada at Kevadia Colony in the Narmada district overflowed this afternoon.
Talking to PTI on phone, dam's executive engineer J K Garasia said the water level touched the height of 121.92 metres at 11 am.
"At 6pm, our reading showed the water level had reached 125.28 metres and increasing slowly due to constant inflow of water. At present, the dam is receiving 8 lakh cusecs of water. By midnight, it is expected that the level would reach 127 metres," said Garasia.
Dam authorities have asked the local administration of Narmada and Bharuch districts to alert villages along the river.
Bharuch collector Vinod Rao told PTI on phone that people have been asked not to conduct Ganesh immersions in the river.
Ajwa dam in Vadodara too overflowed today due to recent spell of heavy rains in southern Gujarat.
