Ludhiana: A car chase in Punjab ended with a policeman losing his sub-machine gun in the suspect's vehicle when it slipped from his hand while trying to break open the car's window. Two policemen, Sukhbir Singh and Chet Singh, were on a motorcycle patrolling a stretch of the on Ludhiana-Ferozepur road when a car collided with their two-wheeler.

The police said they signalled the car's driver to stop, but he sped away. Three young people, including a woman, were in the vehicle apart from the driver, police said.

The two policemen then chased the car on their motorcycle for some distance, and managed to catch up with the fleeing car.

Chet Singh said he hit one of the car's windows with his sub-machine gun, but it slipped off his hand and fell into the car seat. The driver, however, accelerated hard and left the two policemen behind.

Police Commissioner RN Dhoke said a case has been filed and investigation is on.
