Vitthal Radadiya, infamous for pulling a gun at a toll booth attendant, has been chosen as the BJP's nominee from Porbandar for the Lok Sabha bypolls slated for June 2.
Mr Radadiya had quit the Congress in February this year after reportedly being overlooked for the post of leader of the Congress Legislature Party. He crossed over to the BJP, a month later, along with his son and other supporters.
The Saurashtra leader had contested and won the Assembly elections from the Dhoraji constituency last year despite being the Congress's MP from Porbandar. He, later, resigned from his assembly seat to join the BJP.
His son Jayesh Radadiya has now been nominated by the BJP to contest from the Dhoraji assembly segment for the upcoming by-polls.
The names of the father-son duo were cleared by BJP President Rajnath Singh on the recommendations of the State Election Committee.
Mr Radadiya had landed in a major controversy last year after he was caught on camera brandishing a gun and allegedly threatening a toll booth attendant near Vadodara. Mr Radadiya had refused to apologise then, saying he acted in self-defence, though no other person could be seen anywhere near him on camera for most part of the footage.
