Despite hostile weather and heavy snowfall attempts to push militants into India are continuing.
Two encounters are still going on in Kashmir - one in Pulwama in the southern part of the state and the other in the north in Kupwara.
In the Pulwama encounter, which is on since morning, Hizbul Mujahidden's district commander has been killed.
Acting on a tip off, police assisted by security forces cordoned offSangesuuni village, 40 km from Pulwama, to flush out two militants owingallegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen, a police spokesman said.
He said the militants hiding in a house opened fire on the joint search party following which they retaliated.
A militant and two soldiers have also been killed in the Kupwara encounter, which is on since Sunday evening.
