A soldier was killed in an encounter with terrorists at Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district today.
The gunfight broke out when the security forces, based on intelligence inputs, went to Karalgund in the district to look for terrorists hiding in the area.
An officer said as the security forces were carrying out searches, the terrorists fired on them. A soldier was injured in the firing. He was evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, where he died during treatment, the officer said.
Troops of the 92 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, 32 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group participated in the operation. They have called off the operation now after the terrorists escaped from the area, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
