Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said his government was reducing the digital divide in the state and had told students to use the laptops provided by the Samajwadi Party government to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on Teacher's Day.

"If anyone is reducing the digital divide in the country, it is the UP government," Mr Yadav said at a function in Lucknow to felicitate teachers.

Referring to the Prime Minister's address to the students on the occasion of Teachers Day, Mr Yadav said, "We had announced that the student could use laptops provided by the government to listen to the Prime Minister's speech."

He said when the government distributed laptops many people had said children would take a lead in studies and teachers would lag behind.

"The best part was that under pressure teachers remain updated," Mr Yadav said.

He said that earlier there were only teachers who imparted knowledge to the students, but in this era other media like television and computer have also emerged. Now teachers and technology both help.
