Jammu and Kashmir will finally have a new government on Sunday, nearly two months after elections were held. BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav speaks to NDTV about the tough negotiations with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over government formation.
Here are the highlights of his interview:
- It was a very tough two months negotiations we had in the last couple of months.
- On both sides we showed extreme restraint, positivity, we showed understanding of each other's concerns.
- We hold opposite views on certain very important matters.
- We both kept the interest of the people, the state, and the country above everything else.
- The significance lies in the fact that both parties respected the mandate that the people gave.
- BJP, PDP have always held different opinions on Article 370.
- Decided to find the common ground on issues of difference and will try and give a good and stable government to the state.
- We both realized that it is important for us to come together in the interest of the state and larger interest of the country.
- No compromise was made by either party.
