Hamid Ansari sworn in as Vice-President
Mohammed Hamid Ansari has been sworn in as the 14th Vice-President today after he was re-elected on Tuesday. This is his second consecutive term as the Vice-President, only the second to do so after Dr S Radhakrishnan.

Hamid Ansari needed 396 votes to win his second term as Vice-President. He got 490. However, Congress sources tell NDTV that Congress was expecting 500 votes.

Brisk polling was today witnessed in the Vice Presidential poll. As many as 600 electors from an effective electoral college of 787 members of Parliament had cast their vote by 1:00 pm, Hamid Ansari's election agent and senior advocate Pravin Parekh said.

A total of 42 papers were filed by 31 candidates during the 14-day nomination process. Of them, four sets of papers submitted by Mr Ansari and three sets submitted by Mr Singh were accepted. The nomination papers of 29 others were rejected on various grounds.
