Hang me for what I did, says Kasab

Hang me for what I did, says Kasab
Mumbai:

Lone surviving Mumbai attacks terrorist Ajmal Kasab on Wednesday said that he has not given his confession to escape death penalty and asked the trial court to hang him if necessary.

Meanwhile, the prosecution did not accept Kasab's confession completely and said there are discrepancies in it and he is trying to shield his bosses in Pakistan.

On Tuesday, in court, Kasab gave more details of the attack in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. When the judge asked him how he came to know that Pakistan had  accepted him as a citizen. Kasab replied, "I came to know through people on duty in jail."

While pleading guilty on Monday, the 26/11 accused had said that he was confessing because Pakistan had accepted him as its citizen.

Kasab came up with more details of the plot today. He said, "We were told to fire indiscriminately at CST."

"We were told to take people hostage on the upper floors of CST and were also told to fire at anyone who came to rescue the hostages," he added.

Following Kasab's confessions, the trial court was adjourned.

PTI adds: Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam submitted before the trial court Kasab has not made full disclosure in his confession and thus the prosecution should be allowed to submit evidence against him and the other accused in the case.

"Kasab is not telling the whole truth. He has cleverly minimised his role and has done it to get lesser punishment or save his handlers in Pakistan," Nikam argued.

Nikam said there was a provision in Pakistan Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) that allows for evidence gathered outside their country to be submitted in a court there.

"Kasab is very smart and intelligent to say that he be given the death penalty because no court will send him to the gallows if major role of his participation in the crime is discarded," Nikam said.

Through his confession, Kasab is trying to claim he played a subordinate role to slain terrorist Abu Ismail, he said.

"We can accept his confession only to two incidents -- (Mumbai) CST firing and the theft of Skoda vehicle," the Public Prosecutor said.
