New Delhi:
J Jayalalithaa may have just racked up the mother of all comebacks.
The leader of the AIADMK was acquitted today in a corruption case dating back to her first term as Chief Minister in the late 90s. As fans and supporters burst into a frenzy of joy, #JayaVerdict was trending.
The 67-year-old politician is called "Amma" (mother) by her devoted supporters.
Many on Twitter today declared it "Happy Amma Day" -an extension of yesterday's Mother's Day. Here are some of the tweets:
Today's acquittal entitles Jayalalithaa to return as Chief Minister- she was obliged to step down in September after being found guilty of corruption by a Bangalore court which also sentenced her to four years in jail.
She appealed against that verdict and has won.
Former top cop and BJP leader Kiran Bedi wasn't too happy. Here's what the home page of the official AIADMK website looked like.
