Dehradun: BJP today said deposed chief minister Harish Rawat's request to Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul seeking an invitation from him to form government ahead of others shows Congress' "hunger" for power.

"While we met the Governor yesterday to draw his attention to matters of public interest through a memorandum, the former CM approached him seeking a chance to form government.

"This shows Congress's hunger for power and the difference between us as political parties," Pradesh BJP media incharge Devendra Bhasin said in a statement in Dehradun.

"It is strange that the party whose government fell on the appropriation bill leading to imposition of President's Rule is approaching the Governor seeking an opportunity to form the government at a time when its petition challenging imposition of President's Rule in the state is still being heard in the Uttarakhand High Court. It shows how power hungry they are," he said.

Harish Rawat had sent a memorandum to the Governor yesterday requesting him that if President's Rule comes to an end and the prospects for government-formation emerge, he should be the first to be invited to form a government in the state as he had the required number.
