Chandigarh:
Haryana Government has imposed total ban on manufacture, distribution, stocking, recycling, selling or using carry bags made of plastic in the state.
Environment Minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav said a notice in this regard has already been issued by his department and objections for the same have been invited from public by November 27 which might be filed to the Chairman, Haryana State Pollution Control Board.
Yadav said a fine of Rs 25,000 which might extend up to Rs 50,000 by authorities if manufacturing units were found to be violating directions. If these units were still flouting norms their machinery and material would be confiscated.
Similarly, retailers, vendors and other establishments found to be violating directions would be fined not less than Rs 2,500 and which might extend up to Rs 5,000 for first offence and the trade licence of the violator would be cancelled for the subsequent offence.
He said individuals found littering plastic bags or articles such as cup, plates, tumblers in public places which would be fined not less than Rs 250 and which might be extended up to Rs 500 per offence.
The directions would be issued for prohibition on manufacture, sale, distribution and use of virgin and recycled plastic carry bags and recycled plastic containers, he said.
All types of plastic articles would be banned in places having historical, religious and ecological significance, he said, adding, recycling of plastic carry bags would be undertaken in accordance with Bureau of Indian Standards.
Similarly making, plastic product made out of the recycled plastics would be marked as 'recycled', he added.
