Chandigarh: The ruling BJP secured a historic third term in Haryana, winning 48 seats and halting a Congress comeback in the state after a decade, according to the Election Commission website.
The Congress has won 37 seats, Independents won 3 and the INLD won 2 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to the people of Haryana for bringing back the BJP with its biggest mandate ever.

Among major losers are Haryana assembly speaker and BJP's Gian Chand Gupta, Haryana Lokhit Party Gopal Kanda and BJP leader O P Dhankar.
From Julana seat, Congress's Vinesh Phogat registered a victory defeating her nearest BJP rival Yogesh Kumar by a margin of 6,015 votes.

The Aam Aadmi Party has drawn a blank.
The counting of votes began at 8 am amid tight security.

On Haryana election result, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, "I not only welcome the result of Haryana but also congratulate the Prime Minister and the entire team of the BJP. Under the leadership of PM Modi, it is a hat-trick with such a convincing margin. Fireworks were seen and jalebis were being made at the Congress office since morning. Several candidates for the Chief Minister also started coming up. They should show some political maturity. They have not even been elected yet and it has started there."
