Chandigarh: Almost 32 years after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Haryana government has sanctioned an enhanced relief of Rs 12.07 crore to claimants who suffered loss of life and property in Pataudi and Gurgaon areas of the state, an official spokesman said on Monday.
"The relief will be given to the claimants and relations of persons killed and the injured for loss of life and property during the 1984 Sikh riots in the areas of Pataudi and Gurgaon," the spokesman said.
"The enhanced relief is in compliance with the recommendations made by the Justice T.P. Garg Commission of Inquiry on April 30. The funds have been placed at the disposal of the Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner," he said.
Giving details, he said the next of kin of each of the 20 persons who died in Gurgaon district will get Rs 15 lakh. In four other cases of death in Gurgaon district, Rs 20 lakh has been granted in one case and Rs 25 lakh each in three other cases.
As many as Rs 15 lakh each have been granted in 12 cases of death in the Pataudi area. In case of two injured persons in Gurgaon, one has been given Rs one lakh and the other Rs 25 lakh.
The spokesman said that in 81 cases of loss of residential property in Gurgaon, a compensation of Rs five lakh each has been granted. In 15 similar cases in Pataudi, a compensation of Rs five lakh each has been granted.
In five cases of damage to poultry farms in Gurgaon, Rs one lakh each has been given for two properties and Rs 50,000 each for three properties.
In eight cases of industries/workshops/factories, Rs five lakh each have been given in Gurgaon. In two similar cases in Pataudi, Rs five lakh each has been given. In four cases of liquor agencies in Gurgaon, each has been given Rs one lakh.
He said in two cases of loss of transport or finance companies in Gurgaon, one has been awarded Rs 10 lakh while the other will get Rs two lakh.
The spokesman said that in two cases of damage to gurdwaras in Gurgaon and Pataudi, Rs one lakh have been awarded for a gurdwara in Badshahpur and Rs four lakh for a gurdwara in Pataudi.
