Chandigarh: An IAS officer in Haryana has been sent on leave after being accused of sexually abusing a woman.
The state government reportedly asked senior officer SN Roy to proceed on leave after a woman alleged that he had abused her after promising to marry her.
The woman reportedly complained to the Haryana police chief against Mr Roy, who was posted as Principal Secretary in the Urban Local Bodies Department.
The woman alleges she had met the officer when he was posted as deputy commissioner in Sonepat district in 2008. She says had gone to him seeking help in the divorce case against her husband. Since then the two were in regular contact.
The woman also claims that the officer lied to her about his marital status and kept abusing her while promising to marry her. She says she finally realised that the officer was misleading her and approached Haryana Director General of Police's (DGP) office with her complaint.
The complainant alleges she did not get a swift reaction from the Haryana DGP and chief secretary's office, following which she approached Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh, who marked her complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police.
Meanwhile, the counsel for the accused officer, Sartej Singh Narula, has trashed the allegations in his statement and claimed that the woman was trying to blackmail the officer. He told the media that all supporting proof against the woman has been handed over to the police.
