Chandigarh:
The BJP Government in Haryana has ordered inquiry into the "discriminatory award of jobs and cash rewards" to those who climbed the Mount Everest during the previous Congress regime in the state.
Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij has issued the inquiry orders after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar gave his approval in this regard.
Mr Vij said that many mountaineers, who had climbed the Mt.
Everest between 2005 and 2013, when the Congress was in power, have made complaints in this regard.
"During this period, 17 people of the state had climbed the Everest. Of these mountaineers, many were awarded with lucrative cash awards along with government job whereas many were not given any appropriate job or any award money," Mr Vij said in an official release here on Friday.
While giving details of the award money to mountaineers in the previous Congress government, Vij said that of the successful mountaineers, two were awarded cash award of Rs one lakh each, one player was awarded Rs three lakh, five players Rs five lakh each, one player Rs 7.5 lakh, one player was given Rs eight lakh and another player was awarded Rs 21 lakh cash award.
"Not only this, of these mountaineers government job was given to eight mountaineers, of which one was given post of Deputy Superintendent of Police, three were made Sub Inspectors of Police, one was given post of Constable in the Police Department...nine were not given any job," he claimed.
Mr Vij said that this decision was taken in view of complaints received by all these mountaineers regarding alleged discrimination meted out to them.
He said that the present BJP government would give equal opportunity to all and would "not indulge in any kind of bias".
