New Delhi: A day after medical student Inderjeet Singh Chauhan got stabbed in Ukraine, where he was studying, his mother is still in shock. The 24-year-old is recovering at a hospital there, but his fellow students, Pranav Shandilya and Ankur Singh, have died in the attack, for which three persons have been detained.

"I want the government to take care of my son. He should complete his studies and come back," said Mrs Chauhan.

Doctors have said Mr Chauhan is out of danger and is being given all necessary medical care. He has already given a statement to the Ukrainian police, on basis of which three Ukrainian nationals were caught while trying to cross the national border.

"Passports and other documents of the students and blood-stained knife were reportedly recovered from them," an spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs had said yesterday.

Today, Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted saying the Indian embassy is monitoring the case and is in touch with the Ukranian authorities.
The attack took place on Sunday night at the house the three students had rented. When the landlord had found them, Pranav and Ankur, both 23 years old, were dead. The room was in a shambles and the walls were stained with blood.

"The Ukrainian authorities said the robbers wanted to steal the gadgets, which have been found," said Pranav's brother Mukul Shandilya, who runs a local daily in Muzaffarnagar.  Ankur's family is based in Ghaziabad.

According to the ministry, the real reason behind the attack is being investigated. The ministry officials will take an overnight train from Kiev to Uzorgodh to recover the bodies, after which they will be sent to India. The families are in constant touch with the Indian embassy in Kiev, the spokesperson said.
