Headley access in less than 3 months: Tim Roemer to NDTV

New Delhi: The United States has assured India face-to-face access to 26/11 terror suspect David Headley. And now US envoy to India, Timothy Roemer has told NDTV that this could happen in the less than three months.

He also said that the US feels strongly about prosecuting Headley.

Prannoy Roy: India will have face to face access to Headley?

Timothy Roemer: Even before direct access is granted, we have been cooperating with India. We have been sharing information in real time for months with India. We are going to provide that access.

Prannoy Roy: When? By the end of June?

Timothy Roemer: Soon. I have personally burnt the midnight oil to push for this. It's an important symbolic gesture. I am very proud of this relationship we have with India - sharing intelligence which has probably saved lives. We are sharing all kinds of data with India.

Prannoy Roy: So, at the end of three months, we'll have access to Headley?

Timothy Roemer: Sooner.

Prannoy Roy: And Headley's extradition?

Timothy Roemer: That's hypothetical. We're working on intelligence sharing, and providing access to Headley. These are real things and we feel very strongly about prosecuting Headley and making sure he serves a long sentence.
