Headley, Rana visa papers missing?

New Delhi: India has sought a factual report from its consulate in Chicago on reports that the visa papers of terror accused-David Headley and Tahawwur Rana have gone missing.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said that the government had seen reports on Headley's missing visa papers and asked the Consul-General in Chicago to check on them. She said the US was cooperating well with India on investigations.

Rana and Headley were arrested in Chicago by the FBI in October, which believes the two men knew in advance about the 26/11 attacks.

Both men travelled often to India between 2006 and 2008. They allegedly used Rana's immigration agency as a cover to travel to different cities.

Rana, a Canadian national,  has been charged with plotting an attack against the Danish newspaper that printed a controversial cartoon on the Prophet Mohammed. On Monday, US prosecutors said Rana complimented the Lashkar-e-Taiba on the execution of the 26/11 attacks. On Wednesday, a US court denied Rana bail.  (Read: Terror suspect Rana's bail plea rejected)

Headley, a US citizen who left Pakistan as a teenager with his mother, is accused in America of helping to plan and execute the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. Indian intelligence officials admit that they suspect Headley started out as a CIA agent who went rogue, a theory reported by NDTV, which has also been discussed in Parliament. India says it wants "full access" to Headley after the trial against him in America, expected to be completed early next year. Officials in the US have said it's "too early" to discuss Headley's possible extradition to India. (Read: Did US hide Headley facts from India?)
