Canning, West Bengal:
The headmaster of a government-aided school was beaten up allegedly by the associates of the school's secretary, who is a local Trinamool Congress leader, for criticising the state government during the Republic Day programme.
An FIR against school secretary Subhranshu Kayal and seven others were lodged in Kakdwip police station after they allegedly beat up the headmaster Goutam Mondal for saying that the teachers were being deprived of their rights during the present Trinamool Congress-run government, the police said.
It was alleged that Mr Mondal had criticised the state government after unfurling the tricolour in the premises of Shib Kalinagar Ishan Memorial High School on January 26.
Mr Mondal was admitted to Kakdwip hospital. He was attacked with sticks after the programme was over on the Republic Day, the police said.
"I told the students and others that the law and order situation in the state has worsened and I requested them not to take up law into their own hands," he told PTI over phone.
Mr Kayal, denied allegations saying that neither he nor any of his aides were behind the attack on Mr Mondal.
