Alappuzha:
A local court on Saturday issued summons to suspended principal of a church-run school in a case relating to issuance of Transfer Certificate (TC) to a Muslim girl for wearing headscarf while attending classes.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Wasin issued summons to Mary Jacinta to appear before the court on July 31.
Jacinta was suspended in the wake of the controversy at the English medium school run by Kerala-based Believers Church.
The court took prima facie cognizance of the case under IPC 504--(insult intended to provoke breach of peace) after examining witnesses and documents submitted by the girl's father Nazir Musliar as complainant.
The case pertained to issuance of TC to X standard student, Nabala, about two months ago allegedly on the ground that she did not adhere to the school's dress code which disallowed students from wearing headscarf (mafta).
After it triggered a row, the District collector convened a meeting last month to settle the issue.
The girl's father had alleged that the school authorities did not pay heed to his plea that his daughter be allowed to continue her studies in the school till she passed class X.
Though the school management later suspended the principal and agreed to take back the girl, her father got her admitted to another school.
