Hearing-impaired man to wed Chinese lover

Malappuram, Kerala: After three years of courtship over the internet, a hearing and speech impaired person is seeking to tie the knot with his equally disabled Chinese lover, who rushed here to meet him after he met with an accident.

Incidentally, it was the first time 34-year-old Yi Yan Yun, hailing from Shogon province, met Mohammed Jasim face-to-face on April 5 when she came to Kerala, Jasim's relatives said.

Yun, here on a visiting visa, was relieved to know that 26-year-old Jasim, who had an accident last month while riding a two-wheeler, did not suffer any major injury, they said.

The two met and fell in love while chatting via internet and Yun, an active functionary of an association working for the upliftment of the hearing impaired in her native place, helped Jasim set up an internet facility at his home to continue their relationship. Both families have agreed to their marriage, Jasim's family members said.

Jasim has applied under provisions of special marriage act to enter into wedlock with Yun but will have to wait at least a month. However, Yun's visa expires on April 29, following which she would have to leave the country, they said. Yun is keen to take Jasim to China, they said, adding, efforts are being made to facilitate the marriage.
