Bangalore: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BS Yeddyurappa has been in jail for 23 days. Today, the High Court will hear his bail plea. Will he walk free?
The 68-year-old BJP leader was arrested by the Lokayukta police on October 15. He has been accused of illegally denotifying land, and is facing trouble for his alleged involvement in the scam that saw his family members getting prime land at throwaway prices during his chief ministership.
Earlier this month, the High Court had granted bail to Mr Yeddyurappa in one of the two graft cases that have landed him in Bangalore's Central Jail. But he cannot leave prison till he gets bail in both cases.
In July, the BJP forced Mr Yeddyurappa to quit as Chief Minister of Karnataka after he was indicted in a report on illegal mining that declared him guilty of accepting kickbacks from companies who were given mining licences. During his term in office, he was accused on multiple fronts of graft.
Besides Mr Yeddyurappa, his two sons - BY Raghavendra and BY Vijendra - and son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar have also been named accused in land scam cases. Decision on their anticipatory bail pleas is also likely to be announced today.
