The summer sun scorched the Northern and Eastern parts of the country where the temperature at most places climbed above 40 degree Celsius. India Meteorological Department says, there will be no respite from the heat in the coming days, as temperature across the area is only expected to rise.
Two train passengers were found dead in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh where the temperature touched 42.7 degrees Celsius. Temperature in Agra settled three notches above normal at 45 degree Celsius.
In Punjab and Haryana, the heat wave intensified further with maximum temperatures hovering in the range of 42-45 degrees Celsius. Scorching heat prevailed in Chandigarh with the maximum hovering at over 42 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a high of 46 degree Celsius, which six notches above normal. Mercury hovered over 43 degrees Celsius mark in most of the cities in Punjab and Haryana.
The national capital recorded a maximum of 43.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal and a minimum of 26.8 degrees Celsius. A hot and sunny Wednesday lies ahead for Delhi which has been experiencing heat wave conditions over the last few days. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius.
Temperature in Nagpur rose to 46 degree Celsuis and Gwalior at 45 degree Celsius, making them two of the hottest cities in the central part of the country.
With an intense heat wave sweeping through Jharkhand, many towns in the state recorded temperatures above 40 degree Celsius with Garhwa district being the hottest place registering 46 degree Celsius for the fourth straight yesterday. The state capital Ranchi had another hot day at 40.1 degree Celsius.
