There seems to be no let up as the weather office has forecast more rains during the next 24 hours beginning 0830 hrs today.
Most coastal districts experienced heavy rains during the past two days, submerging standing crops and bringing copious water to the lakes and dams in the state.
Meanwhile, the trough of low pressure over Bay of Bengal remained static and under its influence, heavy to very heavy rains could lash the state in the next 24 hours starting 8:30 AM today, the weather office said.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea as strong on-shore winds reaching upto speeds of 45-55 kmph would blow along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has directed Ministers and Collectors of affected districts to work on a war-footing to provide relief and he has reviewed the situation twice, on November 25 and 29, Commissioner of Revenue Administration, N Sundaradevan said.
As on December 2, Papanasam (Tirunelveli dt) has received the maximum rainfall of 170 mm followed by Kulasekarapattinam (158 mm) and Kothuvachery (Cuddalore dt) 130 mm.
"A total of 123 persons including 35 women and 30 children have been killed in various rain-related incidents and their kin are being provided with relief of Rs two lakh as announced by the government," Sundaradevan said in a release

Over Rs 1.31 crore has been given away as relief to kin of persons killed and owners of cattle dead, he said.
Earlier, the government had announced earmarking Rs 100 crore towards relief and rehabilitation, including infrastructure.
The major reservoirs providing drinking water to Chennai--Poondi, Chembarambakkam, Porur, Red Hills, were also receiving good inflow following sharp showers.Water managers have already predicted that there would be no shortage in supply next summer.
