Uttarakhand: Thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain hit parts of Uttarakhand today. The state is likely to receive snowfall in the upper reaches in the next 36 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
"More rain, thunderstorms and snowfall above 4000 metres is likely to occur in Uttarakhand," Deputy Director General of Meteorology Anand Sharma told NDTV.
Icy cold winds and incessant rain not just affected vehicular movement but also brought normal life to a standstill, specially in the capital city of Dehradun.
"Heavy rain in October might just about herald a severe winter ahead," said Ganesh Saili, an author in Uttarakhand.
The hill state has not witnessed rain in a couple of weeks.
