Hyderabad: Heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh have left many towns flooded.
Mantralayam, a town in the Kurnool district famous for Sree Raghavendra temple, is under water.
More water will be let out of the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir as the flooding of the dam continues. District authorities have been warned that more water will be discharged over the next two days.
"With a flood of over eight lakh cusecs of water gushing in, irrigation authorities lifted 10 crest gates of Srisailam dam situated on river Krishna to let out excess water. The same flow is expected to continue for two more days and hence more water will be let out," the Chief Minister K Rosaiah said.
Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir has the capacity to hold another 120 tmc ft of water but with more flood water coming in from Srisailam reservoir, two gates of the reservoir have been opened to discharge water into Bay of Bengal through Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada.
