First there were fears that a delayed monsoon could affect the sowing and production of kharif crops this year even triggering off fears of a drought but now in some parts of Orissa it may be a problem of plenty.
A low pressure area has been formed over the North West Bay of Bengal and very heavy rains have been predicted across Orissa in the next 48 hours.
That's bad news for people living close to the Paradeep Port because the sea there has turned very violent and made inroads into the shore area.
This threatens several important industrial unit including the Indian Oil Refinery project and the POSCO Steel project site.
Rains in Saurashtra
Meanwhile, heavy rains have lashed several parts of Saurashtra region as well throwing life out of gear.
There has been heavy rainfall in Jamnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot. In Lalpur area of Junagarh over 500 mm of rainfall was recorded in the last 12 hours flooding all the areas in the town.
And it's the same situation in Rajkot and even Porbandar. The only good news here maybe that a number of dams in Saurashtra are now full minimising the threat of water scarcity.
The Met department has predicted more rains in the next 24 hours.
