Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Odisha is expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, a bulletin issued by the IMD said.
"The Depression over Northeast Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal remained practically stationary and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, about 340 km east of Balasore," the bulletin said.
The system is likely to remain practically stationary for some more time and may concentrate into a Deep Depression during the next 24 hours, said S Sahu, the Director of IMD, Bhubaneswar.
"Under its influence, rain or thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha," Mr Sahu said, adding that heavy rainfall at a few places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places would occur over North Odisha.
Similarly, heavy rainfall at one or two places is also expected over south Odisha in the next 24 hours, he said.
Cautionary signal has been hoisted at all ports in Odisha.
The impact of the depression would be felt as gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 50 kmph with gusting to 60 kmph would prevail along and off the Odisha Coast. Sea condition would be rough to very rough, IMD sources said adding fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
