Highlights: BJP president Rajnath Singh speaks after break-up with the JD(U)
New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar confirmed today that his alliance with the BJP is over. On Wednesday, his majority will be tested in the state legislature, where his party, the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), is four votes short of a majority.

BJP president Rajnath Singh today spoke after the break-up. Here are the highlights:

  • Congress has ruled India for 40-45 years, but India is still counted as a poor country.
  • There are countries with a population half of India but they have progressed a lot and are counted amongst the richest countries.
  • Why is India still lagging behind.
  • It is BJP which has thought of the youth the most.
  • It is BJP which can generate maximum amount of jobs for the youth.
  • I am not praising my own party, analysts around the world have observed that BJP govt is capable of good governance.
  • We managed to keep inflation in check but under Congress inflation has been on a rise.  Prices are rising because of Congress' corruption and scams.
  • Congress has brought shame to major institutions of the country. It has even dared to go against the Supreme Court.
  • All non-Congress parties should have a resolution of wiping away Congress from all states but sadly our alliance with JD(U) in Bihar has broken.
  • Our alliance was not only political but emotional as well. I am saddened by it.
  • They broke the alliance and I feel that is unfortunate
  • There can be no vetoes in an alliance
  • When we had 67 MLAs and JDU had 34 in 2002, we accepted Nitish Kumar  should be the Chief minister
  • BJP can be cheated but it can never cheat.
  • What mistake did BJP make that JD(U) decided to part ways with us?
  • Is making Narendra Modi campaign head our mistake?
  • How will we free country from Congress at this rate? Is making Modi campaign head same as making a communal personal campaign head?
  • What is my crime? Just this that for electoral success I as party president named Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the election campaign committee.
  • The 2002 riots were unfortunate but how is Narendra Modi responsible for it? How do the riots make Gujarat Chief Minister a communal person?
  • Riots have not occurred only in the BJP regime... why brand us communal?
  • BJP does nor believe in politics based on caste or religion, we have a nationalist ideology
  • Now the time has come to remove the Congress from power, we don't want to live up to the expectations of the people
  • Those who do not pay heed to popular sentiment can't survive in the long run
  • BJP wants to take all non-Congress parties together and work for India's development.
  • Hum dhokha kha sakte hain par dhokha de nahin sakte (We never betray people even though they may betray us).
