Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari today had a one-on-one interaction with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his day-long trip to India. Both leaders held discussions on a whole host of bilateral issues in the informal meeting that lasted for less than an hour. Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai later briefed the media on the details of the meeting.
Here are the highlights of the Foreign Secretary's statement: Prime Minister and President Zardari spent about 40 minutes before lunch and had a friendly and constructive talk.
The discussion covered all aspects of India and Pak bilateral talks.
This is a private visit.
PM and President noted that there was steady progress in dialogue.
PM expressed appreciation that Pakistan has moved forward on trade-related issues.
Both leaders felt the need to tap trade potential.
Both leaders also discussed the issue of terrorism. PM told President Zardari that it was imperative to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 to book.
In this context, Hafiz Saeed was also discussed. President Zardari said the issue needs to be discussed at length.
