The hill-state of Uttarakhand celebrated with gusto its 15th Statehood Formation Day.
Dehradun:
Uttarakhand celebrated its 15th Foundation Day across the 13 districts today. Marathons, speeches, cultural programmes and a book release by Chief Minister Harish Rawat were held on the occasion.
The hill-state of Uttaranchal -- or Uttarakhand as it is known today -- was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, under the BJP government, after a long-drawn agitation.
A senior citizens' walk was organised yesterday in Mussoorie, where 6 bravehearts lost their life on September 2, 1994, during the agitation for the formation of the new state.
"The stream of senior citizens pouring onto the narrow streets was a touching moment for those who had gathered in respect for the departed souls," claimed Professor Ganesh Saili.
