Himachal: British woman alleges rape

Palampur (Himachal Pradesh):

Himachal Police have arrested two men for the rape of a British girl who was working with an NGO in Palampur. The girl is in India on an exchange programme that allows her to work for the upliftment of poor and imparting education.

The 18-year-old British girl was allegedly raped on Thursday night. The teenager had been teaching poor children of the area.

Early on Friday morning, she filed a rape complaint. She alleged that two men, including a taxi driver, took her to a deserted place and assaulted her.

"A case was filed yesterday under section 376 for the rape of a foreign woman," said Rakesh Kumar, Deputy SP, Palampur.

Within hours, the alleged rapists were tracked down on the basis of the taxi's registration number. They are now in police custody.

According to sources, a preliminary medical examination has confirmed rape.
