Chandigarh: Ram Kumar Chaudhary, a Congress legislator from Himachal Pradesh who was wanted in the murder of a young girl, has been sent to police custody for six days by a court after he surrendered in Haryana's Panchkula, near Chandigarh, today.

Mr Chaudhary, who went missing since December, surrendered before the court this morning, a day after police announced a cash reward of Rs. 2 lakh for information on him.

The girl, a native of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was found dead in Panchkula on November 22. Her post-mortem report had confirmed that she died of head injuries and had an abortion recently.

It was only after the investigation of her cellphone details that the role of the MLA came under scanner.

The girl's father had filed a complaint with Haryana Police alleging that Mr Chaudhary had close links with his daughter and he could be involved in the murder.
