Shimla: It goes without saying that the state capital is among the key constituencies in Himachal Pradesh assembly election 2017. The sitting BJP MLA, Suresh Bhardwaj, is contesting against Congress' Harbhajan Singh Bhajji here. Mr Bharadwaj has won the seat thrice before- in 2012, in 2007 and in 1990. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's loyalist Harish Janartha is fighting as an independent.
Sujanpur:. Prem Kumar Dhumal, BJP's chief ministerial candidate, is pitted against Congress' Rajinder Singh, the sitting MLA, and BSP's Parveen Kumar in Sujanpur in Pathankot district. Rajinder Singh, who won the seat as an independent candidate in the 2012 election, is said to be Mr Dhumal's protégé.
Rampur: In Rampur, two-time legislator Nand Lal of Congresss is pitted against ex Congress leader and six -time winner Singhi Ram, who is contesting as an independent this time. Mr Ram won the seat between 1982 and 2003. Prem Singh Daraik , who lost to Nand Lal in 2012, is representing the BJP in the constituency.
Rohru: This is as an important constituency in Shimla district where Congress' Virbhadra Singh was elected as the legislator six times. This time, sitting MLA Mohan Lal Brakta of Congress is pitted against BJP's Shashi Bala. Rohru is largely a Congress bastion where the grand old party has won eleven times.
Arki: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is contesting against BJP's Rattan Singh Pal in Solan district's Arki. Govind Ram Sharma of the BJP is the sitting legislator here. Interestingly, of the 12 assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, BJP and Congress have won four times each.
