Himachal Pradesh gets highest rainfall in 10 years

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh got 143 percent more rainfall than normal in June, the highest in 10 years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

The state recorded 241 mm rain against the normal 99.3 mm, an official told IANS.

According to the Met office, the amount of rainfall this June is "the highest ever precipitation since 2004. The highest precipitation (35 mm) on a single day in the state was recorded June 16."

Kinnaur district, where incessant rains wreaked havoc, recorded the state's highest rainfall of 335.4 mm against the normal of 37.1 mm.

The Met official said temperatures during June were also normal or below normal due to the continuous rainfall and early arrival of the southwest monsoon in the state.
