Himachal Pradesh has season's first snowfall

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh got the first feel of winter this season on Thursday with snowfall at Keylong town.

According to the met department, the temperature in the town, 115 km from the tourist destination of Manali, was 1.1 degrees Celsius. It recorded 8 cm snow.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Dharamsala, Kalpa, Dalhousie and Manali received mild spells of rain.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district saw a low of 1.8 degrees, while the temperature was 5 degrees at Manali in Kullu district and 14.2 degrees at Dharamsala in Kangra district, the release said.

Shimla recorded a minimum of 7.1 degrees, while the maximum there was 14.2 degrees.

The Rohtang Pass (13,050 feet), located 52 km from Manali, and Baralacha Pass (16,020 feet) have been experiencing snowfall.

The picturesque tourist destination Chitkul, a village close to the China border in Kinnaur district, saw moderate snow, according to reports.

The met office said clouds would hover across the state on Friday with a mild spell of rain or snow in some parts of the state.
